Eye and Vision Call for Early Career Reviewers

Eye and Vision (EV) is planning to establish a team of Early Career Reviewers (ECRs) composed of outstanding young and middle-aged experts in the fields of ophthalmology, optometry, and vision science. These reviewers are expected to have high academic influence, rigorous research practices, academic vitality, and a sense of public service. We sincerely invite young and middle-aged experts who are engaged in ophthalmology and have a strong interest in and enthusiasm for the journal's work to join us.

Step 1: Selection Criteria for ECRs

  • Holds a doctoral degree or has more than 2 years of study or visiting scholar experience at renowned laboratories or research institutions.

Step 2: Understand the Policy

Please make sure you have read our review process and policies and understand the responsibilities reviewers must undertake:

1. Elimination Criteria for ECRs:

We operate a "probationary period" model for ECRs, assigning 3-4 review tasks annually. At the end of each year, the quality and timeliness of reviews by young experts will be evaluated. Failure to meet the following criteria will result in exclusion from the reviewer pool:

  • More than 50% of review reports are of poor quality, such as overly simplistic or lacking significant academic insights.
  • Missing the review deadline by more than 7 days on one occasion (our standard review period is typically 14 days).
  • Declining to review without valid reasons on two occasions.

2. Rights of ECRs:

  • Upon successful completion of the probationary period, the journal will award a special appointment certificate as an "Early Career Reviewer of Eye and Vision" for a one-year term.
  • ECRs will be considered for the annual "Outstanding Early Career Reviewers" evaluation, receiving an excellence certificate and corresponding honors and recognition.
  • The pool of ECRs will serve as an important reserve force for our journal's Early Career Editorial Board (ECEB).
  • ECRs are encouraged to record their review experiences on the Publons platform.
